Transformed Lives: Kidera Village

We are thrilled to celebrate a milestone long in the making. The clean water project in Kidera Village (Rubongi Sub-county, Tororo District) is officially complete! What was once a daily burden of trekking long distances and enduring exhausting waits at unsafe water sources has turned into a story of restored hope, joy, and health for local residents.

Understanding Kidera: The Numbers Behind the Impact

According to the official 2024 National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) data released by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), Kidera (Rubongi Sub-county, Tororo District) represents a vibrant, growing community: with  Population: 2,723 residents (1,235 males and 1,495 females) and  618 households.

A Community United in Purpose

Kidera Village set an extraordinary standard for unity and shared ownership, driving the project's success through exceptional local hospitality and active hands-on support. From welcoming the implementation team into their homes with meals and encouragement to working directly alongside residents, local leaders and pastors actively cleared ground, carried materials, and secured the site. This deep, multi-level collaboration ensured the project was genuinely built with the community rather than just for them.

Transforming Daily Life: Freedom From Long Distance and Wait Times

The immediate impact was evident the moment clean water began flowing. Families gathered with empty jerrycans, filling them with safe, clear water right in their own village.

For many women and children in the area, water collection previously meant missing school or risking safety on long journeys each day. As one community beneficiary reflected during the handover:

"We no longer have to walk long distances or spend countless waiting hours just to get water. Having clean water close to our homes changes everything for our families."

Before this borehole project, UBOS records indicated that nearly 44% of households (273 out of 618) in Kidera relied on unimproved water sources. Delivering clean water directly to this parish directly transforms daily living conditions and sanitation outcomes for over 600 households and nearly 2,700 people.

Every donation made impacts the lives of thousands. It’s your continuous support that makes all that we do possible.
